SelecTech, Inc., a leader in the manufacture of innovative flooring products with long-term value and immediate benefits, recently announced that its President, Thomas Ricciardelli, has been named chairman of the EOS/ESD Association’s flooring committee. The EOS/ESD Association, Inc. is a professional voluntary association dedicated to advancing the theory and practice of electrostatic discharge (ESD) avoidance.
“As a manufacturer of ESD flooring, we believe it’s important to stay current on advances in the study of electrostatic discharge so that we continuously improve our StaticStop flooring products. Joining the ESDA a few years ago is part of that effort,” said Ricciardelli. “We also think it’s important to share our knowledge with other ESD and EOS professionals and as chairman of the flooring committee, I have a regular opportunity to share our thoughts and to listen to the thoughts of others.”
The ESDA Flooring committee meets quarterly, both in person at symposiums and virtually. Topics of discussion can range from recently published advances and test results to the group undertaking its own tests and publishing the results.
“How dependent are people on their electronics? Most couldn’t think of going through a day without our devices. Yet operating those items creates an electrostatic discharge, as do our bodies simply by walking across a carpeted floor or regular floor for that matter. Studying and testing the impact of static electricity in the making of our electronics and the operation of our electronics is a very big deal,” said Ricciardelli. “As the president of a company that helps manufacturers and other companies address static electricity in their workplace, it’s very satisfying to be involved with a group like this.”
Founded in 1982, the Association has grown from fewer than 100 members to more than 2,000 members throughout the world. From an initial emphasis on the effects of ESD and EOS on electronic components, the Association has broadened its horizons to include static solutions for industries such as automotive, textiles, plastics, web processing, clean rooms, and graphic arts. The group recently held its annual symposium earlier this month in Reno, Nevada.
SelecTech and its StaticStop and Freestyle ESD flooring products greatly minimize static electricity and are made using recycled material and are 100 percent recyclable. These materials create a static-controlled environment that’s perfect for industries that significantly utilize electronics and sensitive data like electronics manufacturing, communications, aerospace, biotech, healthcare industries, and other high-tech industries.
Additionally, SelecTech flooring—commercial, residential and ESD–employs a breakthrough interlocking technology that dramatically reduces installation times, completely bypassing the need for adhesives and floor prep to install or replace flooring. Because machinery does not have to be completely moved or removed for installation, downtime for businesses can be minimized or even eliminated altogether.
